GSM Solar
We are a specialist contractor in Solar structure and PV panel erection. We started our first solar erection contract in 2013 and recently had a successful handover of the 75 megawatt Reisa Solar Field in Debeng, Kathu. We took people off the street, trained them, employed them and gave them a skill which made them employable after the project was completed. Of the 300 people who went through the different phases of the project, 85% of those were women.

GSM Steel
Structural steelwork is designed and fabricated in a factory into components. It is then erected on site into a complete assembly, ready to take floors, walls, cladding and roof. The material is generally obtained from rolling mills and stockists in the form of I sections, channels, hollow sections, angles or plate. These have to be cut to length, drilled and welded as necessary ready for assembly, and in most cases some protective treatment will be applied against corrosion.

We are located in Cape Town and is 100% BEE owned and is also a specialized roofing company since 1955, We were partners who did the roofs for, among others, The Nelson Mandela Bay Soccer Stadium in Port Elizabeth and the Convention Centre in Cape Town.
We are continually looking at improving our processes in sustainable empowering and employing our youth, predominantly women. Realizing that this market has become more competitive, our focus is to ensure that our workforce consists of at least 80% women and youth between the ages of 18 – 35 years. This forms part of our empowerment strategy recognizing the potential to train, develop skills, ensuring sustainability in more projects and issuing certificates of recognition.

Objectives

To build reputable, transparent relationships with local Municipalities and Community leaders.

Employment of women and youth within a 50km radius of any project location within a specific Municipality of District.

Understanding of local Community needs and supportive to their initiatives.

Identify potential candidates for further tertiary educational initiatives.

Align with National Government pre-requisites ensuring BEE reporting supports their scope and focus.

Social Responsibility

Our commitment to the community involves painting some houses and sponsoring with full kit a local soccer team and a netball team.

We believe sport builds a healthy community which is part of empowering and selection was always transparent and in line with government labour policies and we always had a local municipal official involved in all stages of the contract.

As an added benefit, we selected some of the local people to be trained to handle snakes and other wilf-life creatures as part of the maintenance of the site.
